Volunteer Event: Assist Customers and Pack Bags at the Bed-Stuy CAH Food Pantry

Organization: Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger (BSCAH)

Location: 2010 Fulton Street Brooklyn, NY 11233

 RSVP Deadline: April 2, 2015

TASK: Volunteer will facilitate pantry operations by providing customer service, restocking shelves, unloading deliveries, and maintaining clean and organized shopping and storage areas. Volunteers will also assist with packing bags of food staples for storm victims in Coney Island and Far Rockaway.

BACKGROUND: The Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger (BSCAH) was founded in 1998 as a small traditional food pantry operating out of a church basement; they are now the largest pantry in Brooklyn, providing the basic staples of a well-balanced diet to more than 12,000 unduplicated, low-income individuals a month. BSCAH is unusual in allowing its clients to select fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and other staple items according to their preferences — much as they would in a supermarket.
