Task: Skip the gym and help a child with special needs discover how much they can do through open-ended sports and art activity! Activities range from football toss, bowling, to coloring pictures and creating craft masterpieces. Background: KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) provides free recreational opportunities to hundreds of children and young adults with disabilities. KEEN was founded in England in 1988 and was brought to Washington, D.C. in 1992. Its New York affiliate, located in Manhattan’s Clinton neighborhood, was established in 2008. Clients are paired with volunteers to participate in arts and crafts and sports programs. KEEN fosters the self-esteem, confidence, and talents of young people facing significant challenges, empowering them to meet their individual goals.
